If you are outside in the sun a lot, this can be damaging to your skin in many ways. Below are two of these ways so you can know what you should do. There is also information below on how to protect your skin from the sun's damaging rays.
How the Sun Damages Skin
There are many ways the sun can damage your skin, including the following.
Wrinkles. One way the sun can damage your skin is by aging you faster. You will notice more wrinkles on your face and other exposed skin areas. In fact, a study of approximately 300 women found that UV rays are responsible for up to 80 percent of aging skin.
The sun causes wrinkles because it causes free radicals to form on your skin. These free radicals damage the elastin, which is what holds your skin together. When the elastic is damaged, wrinkling will appear. This wrinkling will start out small, but if you continue to have sun exposure without protection, the wrinkles will become much worse.
Skin Cancer. One in five people in America will develop some type of skin cancer. In many cases, skin cancer is easily treated and will not cause health problems. If the skin cancer is left untreated, however, it can get into the bloodstream and cause death. There are also a variety of skin cancer types, with some types being much more dangerous.
Skin cancer is especially prevalent in older people, as they may have not noticed a particular spot on their skin, allowing the cancer to grow for a long time. It is also more common for people that have a low immune system as their body cannot fight off the cancer as well.
Sun Umbrella
One of the most important things you should do is wear sunscreen. Besides this, another way to protect your skin is to use a sun umbrella on the table on your patio. If you sit at this table for long periods of time, perhaps doing things like eating or reading, a sun umbrella can protect you from the sun. This type of umbrella is generally made of acrylic. Not only will it protect you, but the fabric itself will not fade due to the sun's rays.
You can find these umbrellas in a variety of sizes, so make sure you choose a canopy that will cover the entire table. You can also find sun umbrellas in a variety of fabric colors and designs.
If you follow these tips, you should not have to worry about wrinkles or skin cancer.
